We were the only 2 bidders on the auction and I had mentioned to the Seller that i was still interested if the other person backed out, although I knew he would not as I had run across his bids before and he always paid for what he bought. One other buyer had also put a snipe in obviously for more than i did and that persons bid logged in at the same time mine did and I lost to whatever the next amount over $185.99 was.

So I put my bid in my sniping software at $185.99 thinking that should wipe out any other possible competition so I was blown away when the auction ended and I had lost the item.
This item was a very nice and rare version of what i was buying and it was still sitting at $0.99 with no bids as of 10 hours left to go. I have lost a few times when i was positive that i was going to win an item and one in particular still sticks in my memory. There are other sites that do reset the auction if a buyer bids on the last day and i absolutely hate those as I have seen them take upwards of 30 days to finally end and i am not going to wait that long to an item. I usually place my bid with anywhere from 3-7 days remaining and dont look back at it until I am notified if i won or lost as i have already place the maximum I am willing to pay. I like the fact that none of my competitors know that i am interested in something I am able to pick up some really nice items for dirt sometimes, especially if the seller has misspelled a word or two n the title. I put my highest bid in the software and with 5 seconds left in the auction my bid is placed with the highest amount i am willing to pay.
I have been using sniping software since the very early 2000's and absolutely love it. Ebay is the same except in this case it has the only view of these bid ask entries and you should just expect they will use them. Imagine the stock market and using level II quotes you see each bid ask on a stock. A sniping system may give you an alternative to entering a highest bid on ebay but if you are the only bidder you may be bidding against yourself the way it is set up. Ebay is a dirty dishonest venue and unfortunately there are not any viable alternatives presently available. I bought two other items I needed at the river and just threw up my hands at the whole process. You don't even know if there are other bidders as those could have been manufactured identities from ebay system and were actually entered by ebay. Then you check the bids and you can not see the identity of the other bidders. I had two auctions last week I won as the items were not listed buy it now and each ended at my highest bid. Does anyone really think that a company like ebay would not use that information and bid up the price of an auction to that price. Ebay has your highest bid price that you entered. If I can not buy it now format forget it. I am convinced that all the ebay auctions are rigged anyway. Did an eBay Change Impact Auction Sniping Ability?
